Welcome to the
Roots and Wings
Schools

Roots and Wings School offers a nature-based approach to learning providing educational opportunities to enhance children's healthy growth and development from ages 3 to 13. Nature is at the core of our emergent curriculum where we provide daily outdoor time, exploring the seasonal happenings of the natural world and infusing nature into the indoor spaces.

Seeds & Sprouts School

Roots and Wings School will spend a large portion of their day outside; rain, shine or snow! Our learning model follows the philosophies of Reggio, Mason, Montessori, and Waldorf styles with an emphasis on nature and community.  Our play-based and child-led emphasis drives all our content and activities, letting the seasonal changes occurring all around us drive instruction. Once per week children, the Seeds and Sprouts walk to the Whipple Free Library for a story hour led by the Children's Librarian and to exchange library books for our own story time each day utilizing this local community resource. Along with our weekly walk, we love exploring the local community rail trail system, playing at the local park, and occasionally eating our snack or lunch at the gazebo. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful community to be a part of right here in New Boston.

The Learning Garden

The Learning Garden is the response to an ever-growing community of families looking for child-led learning opportunities for children in 1st-4th grade. The healthy growth and development of the whole child is our top priority. As an extension of Roots and Wings Preschool and Kindergarten Program, The Learning Garden is an educational opportunity for families looking to be involved and engaged in their child(ren)'s academic journey while fostering a learning community with like-minded families. The Learning Garden will serve as an educational opportunity for families to support their child(ren)'s homeschool journey, providing supplemental academic support from a New Hampshire Certified Educator, multi-aged learning groups, as well as a community day. Families can opt in for both the supplemental academic option and/or the community day. Community days will be a full day for children to experience our learning community with STEAM challenges, guest speakers, and community involvement opportunities.

Terms

The Learning Garden will be broken down into terms. Each term has an option for each package that meets the needs of each child's academic journey.

Each term will follow Roots and Wings school calendar but offers shorter chunks of the school year to meet the needs of each family on their homeschooling journey.  Each term will have academic supplemental days with a certified NH Educator.

Other families may only be in search of a community for their child to learn, grow and develop with peers. Our Wednesday Community Days will offer just that! With support from community guests, and commitments to community involvement, we will help children build a sense of understanding for how they learn and how to be a supportive member of our community.

Child progress will be celebrated and struggles will be supported as the child grows in all aspects of development. Together we will learn and grow, but most importantly our students will feel a sense of belonging to a community that supports the whole child and their family.

Each term is like a contract and is not attendance based.

The Learning Garden will operate on a 6 hour school day. Pick up and Drop off time frames allow for a smooth flow of traffic for valet drop off for all Roots and Wings School Students. There will be some overlap with all ages, especially for meals and special events. The structure of a day in the life of a child in the Learning Garden will vary from the Preschool and Kindergarten Schedule. Extended Care services for both before and after care are available if needed. Those services are billed separately, see our Extended Care page for more details.

Extended Care

Kids exploring nature

Extended care services at Roots and Wings School are designed to help families find a safe, loving, engaging space for their child before and/or after school hours.

Before Care opens at 7:00am. Children that are enrolled in our full day programing will find a smooth transition from before care to school within the building. Children that are enrolled in New Boston Central School will be walked up to the New Boston Central School between 7:45-8:00am under supervision of Roots and Wings staff member.

After Care ends at 5:30pm. Children that are enrolled in our full day programming will find a smooth transition from school into aftercare with approximately 45 minutes of play before the older kids arrive from NBCS. Children that are enrolled in NBCS grades 1-6 or PM Kindergarten, will meet a Roots and Wings School staff member outside the front of the school by the flag pole. They will walk down to our facility under supervision of our staff.

Extended Care is a supervised, safe and engaging space for children. There are age appropriate games and activities for children to engage in both before and after school. Many days we are outside enjoying our facility or will also often walk over to the town park and ball field for some much needed movement and free play for all ages. Homework help is offered and children should pack a snack to enjoy with friends after school.
