OUR DAY

Roots and Wings School will spend a large portion of their day outside; rain, shine or snow! Our learning model follows the philosophies of Mason, Montessori, and Waldorf styles with an emphasis on nature and community.  Once per week children will walk to the Whipple Free Library in town to engage in story hour with the Children's Librarian and to exchange library books utilizing this local community resource.

TYPICAL DAY

Schedule is subject to change based on weather, needs of the children and off site walks to local community resources such as the Whipple Free Library, town park, and gazebo, etc.

AM EXTENDED CARE

7:00-8:15

Children can be dropped off between 7:00-8:15 for extended care.

DROP OFF

8:15-8:30

School drop off will occur between 8:15-8:30. As students arrive, we will have activities set up or play outside until all children arrive.

WORK STATIONS

8:30-9:30

Work stations will be designed to be multi-sensory and provide children with ample opportunities to grow and develop skills such as fine motor control, letter identification, counting, etc. Stations will be set up and small group instruction will take place as children engage in exploration stations. Work stations can be inside or outside.

SNACK

9:30-10:00

Snack will be a time for conversation and fueling our bodies with nutritious snacks brought from home. We will take this opportunity to eat and discuss Social Emotional skills to reinforce work stations. This will be a chance for children to get to know their peers and develop healthy habits, manners, and build community. Snack can be held inside or outside.

Free Play / WORK STATIONS

10:00-11:00

A continuation of work stations from the morning will be designed to be multi-sensory. Stations will be set up and small group instruction will take place as children engage in exploration stations. Work stations can be inside or outside.

LUNCH

11:00-12:00

During this part of the day, we will enjoy nutritious lunch brought from home and jobs that encourage children to help take care of their learning spaces. After eating lunch, children will also share in stories and/or mindfulness activities to help slow our bodies down to prepare for rest.

REST

12:00-1:00

During this time, children will be offered a rest. Children will roll out their mats, find comfortable space in our big room and listen to a few stories, instrumental music, or mindfulness podcasts. After 30 minutes, children that do not fall asleep will be invited to head outside until children that did fall asleep wake up. Children that do fall asleep will be woken up after 60 minutes.

REFLECTION

1:00-1:30

Reflecting on the day's events, on learning objectives, and on social emotional skill development is an important part of the growing process. Children will be able to share and listen to their peer as we celebrate a day together as learners.

PICK UP

1:30-1:45

Pick up for children not staying for extended care. Children will likely be enjoying free play outside or free play  inside during this time as they wait for pick up.
